Overview & Cultural Significance

Valparai is an enchanting mid-elevation hill station nestled in the Anamalai Hills of the Western Ghats, located 64 km from Pollachi. Unlike commercialized hill resorts, Valparai is surrounded on all sides by protected evergreen rain forests of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, preserving a pristine natural environment where wildlife coexists with organic tea plantations.

The journey uphill is legendary: a thrilling drive through 40 numbered hairpin bends, offering breathtaking drop-offs over the Aliyar Dam reservoir and tropical deciduous jungles. Along the route, visitors frequently spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, Lion-tailed Macaques, Great Indian Hornbills, and roaming elephant herds.
