Overview & Cultural Significance
Yelagiri is a charming, cluster of 14 tribal villages situated at an elevation of 1,110 metres in Tirupattur district of northern Tamil Nadu. Spread over 30 square kilometres, this peaceful plateau is encircled by orchards of jackfruit, mango, and rose gardens, offering a pollution-free mountain haven.
The hill station is reached via an easy 14-hairpin-bend mountain road from Ponneri, with each bend named after renowned Tamil poets. At the center of the town is Punganoor Lake, featuring pedal boating and adjacent nature parks. Adventure enthusiasts trek to Swamimalai Peak—the highest summit in Yelagiri—for rewarding 360-degree panoramas of the Eastern Ghats.
